Official Programme 1/-. Albert Davies Presents International and Championship Boxing. Market Hall, Carmarthen. Monday, December 4th, 1950. Buff coloured card covers, titles printed in blue and red. Some light wear and one nick (c 1cm) to the foot of the programme and runs through the booklet to the rear cover not affecting any text or image. The programme has been folded at some time and has a light crease running top to bottom again through the whole programme. A former owner's name (Jack Holt) and date 'Dec 1 1950' in old ink to the top of the front cover. The first page is a photo of Tommy Farr with a dedication and his signature dated 3-8-45 on the photo - I'm pretty sure this is a photo of a previously (facsimile) signed photo and NOT his actual signature. The date on the pic wouldn't make sense otherwise. The date on the front cover is also odd, as it's 3 days before the date of the match - though it's quite likely they were sold as 'tickets' pre match - there is a number in red on the front cover (No.1461). Though there was also a 'Winning Programme' contest, so.? (Welsh Area). The former owner has written A big 'W' by the name of one of the 2 contestants, for Winner, and tho he didn't fill in the Rounds, he wrote 'W Pts' against Marshall. Interestingly, as a sign of the times, there is no picture of Marshall, who was a Black American. Out of the twelve boxers he fought who would at some point hold world championships, Lloyd beat nine of them as well as many great boxers who like himself would not get the chance to fight for a title. Lloyd never fought for an officially recognized world title. He retired in 1951 with a mark of 70-25-4, his last good win coming against Tommy Farr in Wales in 1950. This is that Programme. Tommy Farr (1913-1986) was a Welsh boxer from Clydach Vale, Rhondda, nicknamed " The Tonypandy Terror". Perhaps his most famous fight was against Joe Louis.
