Very scarce, this is the third edition with large additions.Illustrated with one in-text figure.ESTC citation number T139003.Collated, bound without the frontispiece, title page and leaves A1 and E2.Register runs as *a-*b4, *c1, A2-A4, B-D4, E1, E3-E4, F-I4.'Progymnasmata' is an important early work on Cornish wrestling, including some notes on fencing.Thomas Parkyns was known as the 'Wrestling Baronet', and organised an annual wrestling match at Bunny Park, which continued until 1810.Wrestling was a popular sport during the seventeenth century, with its fans including Charles II and, surprisingly, Oliver Cromwell. In a full rebacked calf binding. Externally, with some rubbing to the boards and spine, heavier to the joints and extremities, with a small amount of loss to the extremities. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards. Small cracks to the joints. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age-toned and generally clean with a few light spots and handling marks. Collated, bound without the frontispiece, title page and leaves A1 and E2. Repairs to the margins of leaves *b1, and E3. Blind stamp to the head of leaf *a1. Ink note to the margin of leaf *b4.
