About the Author: Anthony Rhodes was born in 1916 and spent part of his childhood in India. He was educated at Rugby, the Royal Military Academy and Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1939 he went to France with the British Expeditionary Force and took part in the Dunkirk evacuation, which he described in "Sword and Bone". Invalided from the army in 1945, he took a degree in modern languages at Geneva University. Until 1953 he taught there and at Eaton College. He was in Budapest during the 1956 uprising and thereafter traveled throughout Eastern Europe on behalf of the Daily Telegraph. He has written fourteen books, including "The Poet as Superman - a Life of D'Anninzio" and "The Vatican in the Age of Dictators, 1922-45", which has been translated into a number of languages.
