In "Prophets, Priests, and Kings", Mr. Alfred George Gardiner, who was also known by the pseudonym of "Alpha of the Plough", presents a collection of genial essays, which in some way are brief biographical excerpts, but for the most part are Mr. Gardiner's personal views of the individual chosen. They are a goodly assortment, some of which will be familiar to all, and others may have retired to the dusty corners of history's back shelves. Some of them were, in fact, kings and heads of states, some priests . and all of them held considerable sway over the social and intellectual topics of their day. They were shakers and movers. Some moved very little . others made waves that are still being felt today. There are handsome reproductions of portraits of some of the subjects rendered by Clive Gardiner. This is a reprint, issued by J. M.Dent in its Wayfarer's Library in 1914.
