His Proverbial Philosophy met at first with only moderate success. By 1867, however, it had passed through forty large editions in Britain, while nearly a million copies were sold in the United States. In a full calf binding. Externally smart, with rubbing to the extremities, and rubbing and fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean apart from some spotting to the first and last few pages.
