Starting on December 12, 1915, the Philadelphia Ledger newspaper ran a unique promotion. The promotion, engineered by the children's book publisher P.F. Volland & Company, ran for a span of twelve issues published every two weeks. It provided the opportunity for readers to construct their very own softcover book out of the newspaper itself. Instructions are provided at the back of each book - after a simple series of folds, the reader ties cord, ribbon, or silk through a set of punched holes, before cutting the pages apart with the blade of a knife. Each of the issues are paper versions of a small hardback set of books published by Volland from 1912 to 1914. The book itself is in good condition. Clean bright pages bereft of inscription, firm binding, vibrant covers, etc. A couple tears to right side of front cover. A spot of discoloration to back cover. General shelfwear.
