Large square quarto, 390 pp. One of an edition 67, this being one of only 12 special copies (A-L) for la Libraire Dechenne. Printed on Van Gelder Holland paper 'velin teinte' at the press of Oscar Lamberty by Adolphe Mathieu and Pierre van Belle. Illustrated by etchings and woodcuts by Albert Delstance, who pulled his own detailed copperplate etchings done in a manner reminiscent of Rembrandt to reflect the period covered in the text. Bound in full dark emerald green crushed morocco; raised bands, title and floral designs in gilt on spine, geometric design in gilt on the front cover with corners of the square ending in a diamond-shaped recess containing a fine metal filigree shamrock; with the recessed central panel holding a hand colored pen and ink drawing on parchment of a road bordered by trees. Top edge gilt; green watered silk end-papers and a sturdy watered silk lined clam-shell box with the spine covered in green crushed morocco with raised bands and title in gilt, original paper covers and spine bound in.
