Vintage Hardcover with scarce DJ, First Edition 1924 Grosset & Dunlap 242 pages, followed by seven pages of ads for other boys and also girls series books. Very Good, in a VG DJ. Minor shelf/edge wear to chocolate brown pictorial cloth boards with black titles and front cover illustration of black steam locomotive with grey steam blowing - corners sharp. There is a small one inch long edge bump to the rear board and a slight shelf lean. Minor shelf/edge wear and chipping, dust soiling and a chip about an half-inch square (rear panel at corner near the flap) to original unclipped uncoated DJ - now in mylar. Previous owner used archival tape on the backside of the DJ to reinforce and repair a few closed tears. Despite the minor flaws of the DJ it's still beautiful. Artwork by Walter S. Rogers. Frontispiece is on coated paper and is B&W (also by Rogers). No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and unmarked with just a touch of age-toning. Binding solid.This is Number 8 in a series of 10 books. The last title of the Radio Boys Series on the inside flap of the DJ also matches the title of this book. Part of The RailRoad Series (also referred to as The Ralph Series) - Per Mattson, #47300, binding variant 4. The Ralph of the Railroad series was the Stratemeyer Syndicate's first series produced under the Syndicate method. The first ghostwriter, Weldon J. Cobb (writing as Allen Chapman), was advised to consult a series of articles that were published in McClure's Magazine. This is Number 8 in a series of 10 books. Mattson, #47300, binding variant 4.
