When I was a kid, time flowed like a river, carrying my family and me in the same relentless direction. But now, having lived most of my adult life on the water, I see the shifting Gulf Stream that carries the living and the dead. In the fathomless context of family, no matter how we try to separate ourselves, the detritus of one life eventually washes up on the shores of another.

Turks and Caicos, 1993. Critter Stillwell, a man who knows how to keep secrets, wakes up in a holding cell, jolted from a dream of shipwrecks and perfidy. Federal agents drag him down the hall for a combative interrogation that takes him back to Athens, Georgia, 1989: the year Critter’s father drank himself to death. Guy Stillwell, legendary attorney and celebrated scoundrel, left Critter with an embattled law firm, an estate in chaos, and a minefield of secrets—including a little brother Critter never knew he had.

Determined to leave his demanding family and all-consuming law practice behind, Critter envisions a new life with his two great loves: Vivvy, a whip-smart jury consultant, and Rascal, a sleek vintage motor yacht with the soul of a smuggler. Critter and Vivvy set out on a shakedown cruise with a skeleton crew of misfit yachties and end up adrift in the Bermuda Triangle. Help comes in the form of a sinister figure from Rascal’s past, and the ripple effects go on for years, pitting brother against brother and spawning the FBI investigation that now threatens Critter’s family, his freedom, and the life of the woman he loves.

In the highly anticipated sequel to Rascal on the Run, Howard Tate Scott returns with a layered tale of the wreckage left in the wake of one man’s death and the love that outlives him. Part legal thriller, part romance, part Southern family saga, Rascal’s Redemption is ultimately a poetic meditation on personal freedom and the unexpected adventure of life.
