Quite uncommon inscribed First Edition (1909) of this account of the major bloody conflicts involving white settlers, Sioux Indians and the U.S. military in Minnesota in 1862-1863. Oscar G. Wall was a soldier with the Fifth Minnesota, an Army unit that was active in countermeasures against the Sioux. Wall's account includes material drawn from his contemporaneous observations and also from other sources as the then-young soldier would grow in sophistication with the years through such activities as a stint in the Minnesota legislature and editing a newspaper in South Minnesota. Major events discussed at length include the Yellow Medicine Incident, the fighting at Fort Ridgely, the death of Army Capt. John Marsh and Sibley Expedition of 1863. Inscribed by O.G. Wall to previous owners on the front endpaper. The inscription is dated 1910. Maroon cloth, 282 pages, illustrated. The book has a bit of rubbing on the covers and stress on the back hinge but not a complete break. There is an undated newspaper clipping pasted to the back pastedown page. It is a humorous note from O.G. Wall in which he thanks saloonkeepers for their help in his election to an unnamed office. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 011196
