Crum a veteran of the Boer War, an ardent supporter of the use of sniping returned to soldering in 1915 and going to France he recounts his experiences in 1916. He was invited by General Skinner to join his staff of the 41st Brigade to run the snipers and intelligence unit, later starting a brigade school for sniping.
