Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

An early issue of this Chicago underground newspaper, which was published from 1969-1976 and fused radical left politics with working-class cultural fare. Rising Up Angry was founded in the summer of 1969 by ex-JOIN (Jobs Or Income Now) Community Union members intent on "build[ing] an organization rooted in working-class culture [by] recruit[ing] a cadre of working-class radicals that could help see the radical vision of social transformation to fruition" (Sonnie & Tracy, 103). The group and its paper took their name from song lyrics from the cult youth film Wild in the Streets (1968), and the paper’s masthead featured a raised clench fist, to which a shotgun was later added. This issue features an editorial "to the brothers and sisters on the new world which is ours to build," coverage of the Chicago Young Lords, Bobby Seale's incarceration, the death of SNCC members, the Weathermen, etc.; updates on Rising Up Angry's various community programs, a large centerfold poster on revolting meant to be wheatpasted community, news on international anti-colonial movements in Ireland, Laos/Cambodia, music and film reviews, etc. Like many issues, the rear cover features an underground comic strip called Rising Up Angry Funnies (later collected into a comic book issued by the group). Tabloid format printed in color on newsprint, 24 p., illus. Light wear, mailing information along the bottom edge; a very good copy.…
