Original gilt-titled green cloth in colour illustrated jacket 15x23cm. 90pp English and 102pp Arabic text, illustrated throughout with b/w photos and maps, adverts, but missing the loose folding map. Covers and interiors otherwise fine with price inked to ffep; jacket fair only with some scuffing, some loss, and tape repair. This looks to be very rare, with Worldcat locating 7 institutions for the map only. Published at a time of rapid growth prior to the oil boom, this was the first in an intended series of annuals to inform especially non-Arab outsiders about Riyadh's social and commercial character, before heading over to work or on business. It was prepared with the support of Riyadh's Governor Prince Salman, Deputy Governor of Mecca Prince Ahmed, and Prince Sattam. This includes introductory chapters on ancient Riyadh, life in modern Riyadh (climate, customs, hotels, transport, shopping, cars "Boom town" etc), and changes since 1964 (building, roads, water, sewage, storm drainage, power, health, education, economic growth, airport, rail). Sections touch on religion, marriage, social security, the Saudi Red Crescent Association, Racing Club, Saudi Airlines, Chamber of Commerce, official phone numbers, cost of living, classified guide (shops, businesses).
