oses, Pierre-Joseph Redoute, The Ariel Press, Limited Library Edition, First Edition, Third Impression Redoute was a painter and botanist from Belgium, known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers at the Chateau de Malmaison, many of which were published as large, coloured stipple engravings. He was nicknamed "the Raphael of flowers" and has been called the greatest botantical illustrator of all time. A selection of twenty-four plates has been selected for this book by Eva Mannering with the ultimate aim of gathering within the pages the eternal fragrance and bloom of the Rose. This is a Library edition with a print run that was limited to 1000 copies with full linen boards. In fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears and inscriptions. The clipped dust jacket, protected by a removable paper cover, is in near fine condition with two small tears to the bottom edge of the front cover. This is a beautiful book with stunning illustrations making it an impressive addition to a library, a wonderful coffee table book or a lovely gift.
