Inhaltsangabe:

A translation of Colm Ó Gaora's MISE. On the Run is a translation of Colm Ó Gaora's Mise, one of the best-known accounts of the War of Independence in the Irish language. Ó Gaora was an important figure in the development of republicanism and the IRB in the west of Ireland, and On the Run is a fascinating record of that turbulent era in Irish history. Ó Gaora gives a vivid account of the social and living conditions of the people of Connemara in the early years of the twentieth century, his time working as a Gaelic League organiser, his experiences as a member of the IRB and the Irish Volunteers, and the events he took part in during the War of Independence.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: Colm Ó Gaora was an important figure in the development of Republicanism and the Irish Republican Brotherhood in the west of Ireland and was a leading figure in the first generation of nationalist intellectuals who defined the emergence of the nascent Irish state. O'Gaora grew up in the Connemara Gaeltacht, joined the Irish Volunteers during preperations for the 1916 Rising in Galway in Mayo and was subsequently imprisoned in Dublin and Darthmoore. On his release he returned to Republican activities working with Peadar O'Donnell and was imprisoned again in Galway.
