Six volumes of William Marshall's Rural Economy. Comprising of the complete two volume sets of three of his works. Marshall's extensive work on Rural Economy eventually spanned to twelve volumes. The bindings to this work have numbered the volumes 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 and 10 as they were probably originally from a complete set of Marshall's Rural Economy. Comprising of: The Rural Economy of Norfolk: Comprising the Management of Landed Estates and the Present Practice of Husbandry in that County (First Edition, Two Volumes 1787) The Rural Economy of the West of England Including Devonshire and Parts of Somersetshire, Dorsetshire and Cornwall Together with Minutes in Practice, (First Edition, Two Volumes, 1796) The Rural Economy of Gloucestershire Including Its Dairy Together with the Dairy Management of North Wiltshire and the Management of Orchards and Fruit Liquor of Herefordshire, (Second Edition, Two Volumes, 1796) With a folding map to volumes I, V, and IX. Collated, volumes present are complete. William Marshall was an 18th Century author on contemporary agriculture. In half calf bindings with paper boards. Externally, worn. Heavy rubbing to the joints and spines. Small losses at the Head and tail of spines to most volumes. Bumping to the extremities of all volumes. Joints to most volumes are tender. Front joint to volume I is weak and held by one cord only. Front hinge to volume I is therefore weak also. Rear hinge and joint to volume I are tender. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown of all volumes, S Laing. Rear hinge and joint to volume II are tender with cords showing. Front hinge to volume II has failed, with the board detached but present. Front joint and hinge to volume V is weak with cords showing may detach with further handling. Hinges are tender to volume VI. Front joint and hinge to volume IX are weak and may detach with further handling. Spine and binding to volume X has split, with the work in two portions at pages 226-227. Front hinge and joint to volume X are weak and may detach with further handling. Crack to rear joint of volume X with the hinge slightly strained but firm. Internally, most volumes are generally firmly bound. Volume X is generally firmly bound aside from the split to binding.
