Paperback. AUDIOBOOK: SAINT PATRICK. The Apostle of the Green Isle You are the end point of an unbroken chain of survival. Every person who came before you - through plague, war, famine, and flood - lived long enough to pass forward what was necessary for you to exist. You did not begin when you were born. You began when humanity began. Everything that happened between that beginning and this moment is not the past in any abstract sense. It is the story of the making of you. This book takes you to one of the most extraordinary moments in that story. Western Britain and Ireland. 401 CE. A boy of sixteen is seized by Irish raiders and taken across the sea in the dark. He spends six years on a mountain, alone, in a language not his own. He walks two hundred miles on the strength of a voice he heard in the night. He returns to the country that enslaved him - and converts it. Ireland had never been touched by Rome. No cities, no roads, no written language. One man changed that. The Apostle of the Green Isle asks what it meant to be inside that moment. Not as a bishop. Not as a saint. But as the boy on the mountain who prayed through the cold until one night he heard two words. Your ship is ready. What does it feel like to go back to the place that broke you - and choose to stay? The facts are extraordinary enough. Patrick wrote his own account - the Confessio. It begins: I am Patrick, a sinner, the most unlearned of men. Ireland converted without a single martyr. No other country in early Christian history can say the same. The monks his mission made possible copied Virgil and Cicero while Europe burned - saving the literary heritage of the ancient world. Seventy million people worldwide claim Irish descent. The largest diaspora relative to any nation's home population in history.History is not a sequence of dates. It is the record of billions of lives lived forward through a present as urgent as your own. Peat smoke and salt air on an Irish morning. Wool on a cold shoulder. A language closing around you like a wall. They were curious about the same things we are. They walked something that is still asking us questions. This book is the attempt of one ordinary witness - a boy shaped by a mountain - to answer. For homeschooling families: You are already doing the most important thing - putting the story of humanity directly into your children's hands. The Beyond His Story We Stand series was written for you. Each book takes one moment in human history and makes it lived rather than memorised, felt rather than filed away. Not a textbook. Not a syllabus. A story your child will not want to put down - and that will leave them asking the questions that no curriculum can generate for them. The questions that only wonder produces. The Apostle of the Green Isle is part of the Beyond His Story We Stand series - a chronological journey through human history, told through the eyes of the people official history forgot to record. The mountain made him. SAINT PATRICK. The Apostle of the Green Isle
You are the end point of an unbroken chain of survival. Every person who came before you — through plague, war, famine, and flood — lived long enough to pass forward what was necessary for you to exist.
He returns to the country that enslaved him — and converts it.
What does it feel like to go back to the place that broke you — and choose to stay?
The facts are extraordinary enough. Patrick wrote his own account — the Confessio. It begins: I am Patrick, a sinner, the most unlearned of men. Ireland converted without a single martyr. No other country in early Christian history can say the same. The monks his mission made possible copied Virgil and Cicero while Europe burned — saving the literary heritage of the ancient world. Seventy million people worldwide claim Irish descent. The largest diaspora relative to any nation's home population in history.
History is not a sequence of dates. It is the record of billions of lives lived forward through a present as urgent as your own. Peat smoke and salt air on an Irish morning. Wool on a cold shoulder.
