Ilustrado com 1 magnifico frontispício gravado adornado com o brasão de Filipe III (com as armas de Portugal ao centro) a quem o autor dedicou a obra e com cenas das vidas dos santos ibéricos S. Isidoro, S. Ildefonso, com imagens de S, Bento e S. Gregório e sobrepujado por uma cartela sustentada por anjos mostrando Santo Isidoro a defender Espanha dos Mouros. Impressão muito nítida, sobre papel de linho encorpado e muito sonante, com caracteres redondos no texto e itálicos nas citações e títulos, que está adornada com cabeções com motivos antropomórficos e florais, as armas reais de Filipe III de Espanha a servirem de remate ao Prefácio e pequenos florões de remate. Exemplar com assinaturas de posse à cabeça e no pé da folha de rosto pertencentes à Biblioteca dos Carmelitas Descalços de Santa Cruz do Bussaco e com pequeno defeito no centro do Brasão de Filipe III, onde estão armas de Portugal. 1ª edição raríssima que não é mencionada nas principais bibliografias. Foi publicada 2ª edição em 1616. Contém as biografias de três santos que pertenceram ou estiveram ligados á Ordem de S. Bento. São eles: Santo Isidoro, (Cartagena c. 560 - Sevilha 04-04-636) Arcebispo de Sevilha, autor das Etymologiae, grande suma do saber da sua época; Santo Ildefonso (Toledo 606 - 23-01-667) Arcebispo de Toledo e precursor do dogma da Imaculada Conceição; e São Gregório I, O Grande, (Roma c. 540 - 12-03-604) Papa entre 590 e a sua morte. Costantino Caetani (1560-1650) Beneditino, erudito, Abade de S. Baronti, foi Bibliotecário do Vaticano. É autor de outras de caracter biográfico: Beati Amalarii Fortunati, ordinis S. Benedicti, S.R.E. cardinalis, Treuerorum archiepiscopi, ac Galliæ Belgicæ primatis, vita ex ipsius scriptis potissimum excerpta a domno Constantino Caetano S.mi D. N. a sacris litterarum monimentis, & Congregationi. Illustrated with 1 magnificent engraved frontispiece adorned with the coat of arms of Filipe III (with the arms of Portugal in the centre) to whom the author dedicated the work and with scenes from the lives of the Iberian saints St Isidore, St Ildefonso, with images of St Benedict and St Gregory and surmounted by a cartouche supported by angels showing St Isidore defending Spain from the Moors. Very clear printing, on very thick and very sonorous linen paper, with round characters in the text and italics in the quotations and titles, which is adorned with anthropomorphic and floral motifs, the royal arms of Filipe III of Spain serving as a finishing fleuron to the Preface and other small floral finishing fleurons . Copy with handwritten ownership titles at the head and foot of the title page belonging to the Library of the Discalced Carmelites of Santa Cruz do Bussaco and with a small defect in the centre of the Coat of Arms of Filipe III, where the arms of Portugal are located. Rare first edition that is not mentioned in the main bibliographies. The second edition was published in 1616. It contains the biographies of three saints who belonged to or were linked to the Order of St Benedict.
