SANRON YOKU is the supplement to KAGAWA Genetsu [1700-1777], his adopted father's book: SANRON, published Meiwa 2nd. year [1765], issued in a First & Only Edition. . The bibliographical record is full of errors and confusion between these two different people with the same last name [KAGAWA] and similar first names. The titles are also very similar adding yet more confusion to the differences between the two books. . Titles, names & dates are commonly attributed to the wrong author or title. These notes are excellent examples of Japanese medicine, medical practice, medicines, instruments, organs and related. They were transcribed [mostly verbatim] into the his text for GALAXY. . *** MESTLER'S NOTES: This set was annotated on 2 slips papers by Mestler in his handwriting and initialed "GEM.' There is also a note to "Vincent [his assistant] to make two 4 x 5 inch glossy prints [photos] left recto." These notes & photos were transcribed and incorporated in to his GALAXY. . An additional note assists in bibliographical annotations used to describe this work, and its fascinating aspects. . *** CONDITION OF MESTLER'S PERSONAL COLLECTION COPY: . Volume 1 has a bit of minor old worming to front covers and inside a single worm hole to several pages, text legible, else a very clean on bright paper, solidly bound. . Volume 2 is very clean internally, no worming. it lacks the title slip. . They have been respected as the most brilliant physicians who influenced medicine in Japan. . WHO WAS KAGAWA GENTEKI: [1739-1779]: He was the adopted son of Kagawa Genetsu [1700-1777] & author of the first edition: SAN RON. . That classic work was followed by the SAN RON YOKU written in 1775 by Kagawa Genteki, as a "supplement" to the SAN RON. . "It corrected errors in the earlier work, resulting in a considerable improvement in obstetrical methods." Quoted from Mestler's GALAXY pp.300,494 et al. see below. . SAN RON YOKU established the first true scientific treatise on "forced child birth," in Japan, published in 1775. . * Mestler stated: "The SAN RON was destined to be the standard authority on obstetrics in Japan for at least a hundred years. That classic work was followed by the SAN RON YOKU written in 1775, by Kagawa [1739-1179], the adopted son of Genetsu, as a "supplement" to the SAN RON and to correct the errors in the published work of his mentor, the elder Kagawa, resulting in a considerable improvement in obstetrical methods."
