Über diesen Titel

Seat of Empire is the best relatively succinct account I know of the events, places, and people so central in the city's and state's history. General readers, state and local lawmakers, college students, and historians will find pleasure and profit in its pages. Kerr provides illuminating contexts for the passionately contested and inevitably politicized question of location and sketches adroitly the picturesque (and often picaresque) pistol-packing politicos caught up in the jousts. -Harold Hyman, William P. Hobby Professor of History Emeritus, Rice University In his lively depiction of the founding of Austin as the capital of Texas, Jeffrey Kerr offers colorful accounts of the scenic setting, early settlers, and contentious times. Against the broader controversy of how to maintain and develop the Republic, he guides us through the ongoing struggle waged between Mirabeau Lamar and Sam Houston, the first two presidents, over the desirability of a new frontier capital.-Alwyn Barr, author of Texans in Revolt: The Battle for San Antonio, 1835

Quinn & Davis are Booksellers of exceptional used, out of print, scarce, rare and notable First Edition books. We are an internet bookstore with our inventory listed on the Advanced Book Exchange. We exhibit and sell at book fairs and occasionally issue printed catalogs. We concentrate on notable and scholarly non-fiction books about Texas, The Early Western Movement in America, Early American History, Military History, Political History and Politics, Law and Legal History, Biographies, and The Sciences. We are currently expanding our inventory of collectible children's books. We strive to keep our data bases current so that when you inquire about or order a listed book we will have it. One of our most important considerations is the book's condition. We use the following grading system for our books. VERY FINE. (VF). The very highest grade that can be assigned to any book. A pristine copy with no defects. Has that new book 'creak' when opened. FINE. (F). This grade lacks the crispness and pristine quality of a Very Fine book. Fine allows for only a few noted defects, such as minor shelf wear or price clipping. NEAR FINE. (NF). A sub grade of Fine and is only a very small step down from Fine. All defects will be noted and described. VERY GOOD +. (VG+). A small step up from Very Good and not quite as acceptable as Near Fine. VERY GOOD. (VG). A book that is attractive, whole and has had care. A very acceptable, collectible condition. All defects such as wear and soiling are noted in the description. We list all defects and then grade the overall condition of the book. You must be 100% satisfied with the condition of the book or you may return it for a full refund.
