First issue of this Atlas. Oblong small folio, 13.5 x 9 inches. With title page and 50 engraved Maps two of which are folding, each map is printed on a single sheet and numbered in the plate in the top left-hand corner. Some old repairs and a couple of maps are slightly worn along the lower margin and some slight foxing here and there but a very good example. Re-backed in half calf in the style of the period and re-cornered preserving the original sugar-paper covered boards. A very good example of this rare and attractive atlas. This set of maps by Moll were first issued earlier in the same year (1724) as illustrations to his 'New Description of England and Wales' which had 343 pages of descriptive text. The only addition to the maps for this issue was that the plates are numbered 1-50 within brackets between the border lines in the top left hand corner. The maps proved popular as their were two subsequent reprints as late as 1753. The atlas here offered is the earliest issue in this form. Beresiner pp. 156-7; Hodson 174; Shirley.
