The follies (to which four have been added) are Squaring the Circle; The Duplication of the Cube; The Trisection of an Angle; Perpetual Motion; The Transmutation of Metals -- Alchemy; The Fixation of Mercury; The Universal Medicine and Elixir of Life; Perpetual or Ever-buring Lamps; The Alkahest or Universal Solvent; Palingenesy; and The Powder of Sympathy. But these only occupy the first 114 pages. A second section, A Small Budget of Paradoxes, Illusions, and Marvels (with apologies to Professor de Morgan) take up 43 pages. And a third section, Curious Mathematical Problems, 64 pages, completes the book. 231 (+ ix) pages, with 20 figures, and Index. Lettering has faded at backstrip, boards otherwise clean and sound; publisher's note glued to front endpaper; text, apart from foxing at upper and leading text edges, is strong and unmarked.
