[SIGNED] PHOTOGRAPH OF CARTER GLASS AND FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT

A framed photograph Virginia politician Carter Glass with his sometime adversary Franklin Delano Roosevelt, with a presentation inscription by Glass to his sister: "To my sweet sister Lula, with the affectionate regards of her devoted brother. Carter Glass". The photograph is 11" x 14", including the border.~~Carter Glass was one of the more significant Virginia politicians in the early part of the 20th century. A Lynchburg native, he was to represent both houses of Congress, and was the Secy of the Treasury under Woodrow Wilson. He was instrumental in establishing the Federal Reserve System. A true advocate of "State's Rights", Glass was a consistent opponent of the New Deal and clashed with President Roosevelt many times (though Roosevelt offered to appoint him again as Secretary of the Treasury in 1933, an offer which Glass declined). He was, however, a strong supported of the President's efforts to prepare the country for war. ~~Attached to the back of the picture is a newspaper clipping showing Senator Glass at the Mayflower Hotel surrounded by flowers on his 86th birthday; along with the flowers is a signed picture of President Roosevelt, sent as a gift.~~.
