She was the daughter of solicitor, Henry Alington Pye and Charlotte Yerburgh. In 1854 she wed Charles Barnard in 1854 who was the parson of St. Olaves, Ruckland, Lincolnshire. However the couple lived at The Firs in Westgate, Louth, Lincolnshire. Charlotte's was presented at court in 1856, and the couple subsequently lived in Pimlico, London. On 8 July 1847, Charlotte laid the foundation stone of Louth railway station. ***During a visit to Louth in 1862, Charlotte wrote twenty Spring Songs. She sang some of her own compositions at a fund-raising concert to raise money to pay back the cost of the newly installed east window of St James' Church, Louth. A stained glass window in her memory now stands at the west end of the church. By 1864, she had moved to Kirmington rectory as her husband had been appointed Rector of Brocklesby with Kirmington. Charlotte was a balladeer and hymn-writer, and wrote 'I Cannot Sing the Old Songs', 'Bide A Wee' and 'Come Back to Erin'. She was also the composer of the hymn tune 'Brocklesby'. In 1868 it was found out that her father had been stealing money left in his care and trust who then fled to Belgium with his second wife. Charlotte joined him with her husband. She came back to England at the start of 1869 on holiday, became ill and died from typhoid fever. ***No copies of the original edition exist on COPAC. ***Of interest to local historians and collectors of unusual poetry books - this being a photocopy facsimile of the nineteenth century original published orignally in 1862 and written in Somercotes, Lincolnshire. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 6782
