Stoney is the riveting story of Nancy Stoneberg’s determination and courage in the face of unbelievable odds and countless barriers to find her husband, Mark, who she witnessed instantly disappear in the ocean while vacationing in a remote Mexican village. The story becomes well-publicized in the village and back home in Minnesota where their three children wait for word about their dad, with a loving community of family and friends by their side.
Struggling with the language barrier and lack of resources from the local government, the search for Mark consists of volunteers, the couple they are vacationing with, and Nancy’s brother and sister-in-law who came to help search for him. In the throes of mind-numbing pain, and against approval by the local government, Nancy hired a search-and-rescue pilot believing that Mark was alive either clinging to debris or stranded and hurt on land nearby.
Tragically, yet miraculously, Mark’s body surfaced five days later fifteen miles south of where he vanished. The traumatized family learns to move on with life after Mark’s death. Five years later they learn of a silver lining in his death—there is now a lifeguard tower dedicated to Mark in the area where he disappeared with many lives continually being saved.
