HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME . * There is a total of thirty fascinating Japanese stories, some of Hearn's most iconic and classic examples. This is Hearn at his best ! . There is a color frontispiece with caption: "The Last Token." . These essays were used by Japanese students of Hearn, English language lessons and literature studies. They are often heavily annotated, with pencil translations of vocabulary, and other student notes. If so noted we will state 'marginalia' which indicates these additions mostly very neatly inscribed. . *** Compiled and edited by Hearn's star Japanese pupil, R. Tanabe. . *** BINDING & CONDITION: Generic: The book is bound in the original publisher's green cloth with paper label on the front cover and silver inked spine titles. The front covers have a blind-stamped Heron, which is Hearn's Mon [family crest] embossed. . When present this came with grey or light green dust jacket with green printed titles and photo of Hearn on the front and spine titles. . Copies and publication dates vary, please carefully read the description notes, condition comments and details for each individual copy prior to ordering. . * INDIVIDUAL COPY NOTES: . Copy 1, the FIRST EDITION, is a far and above superior copy, with barely any signs of wear, except to the front lower right corner a tiny bit of wear, else all spine head & tails not work and other corners ditto. Covers clean and fresh. . Copy 5 has a replacement spine in black pebbled cloth with gold stamped spine titles, small amount of typical neat marginalia in pencil with a bit of red pencil underline, no other issues. . Copy 6 has the dust jacket, with normal wear to upper edge, spine top, old clear taped there as well, lower corner bit worn, else fairly nice, else clean example in Mylar protector. . Copy 8 has several tiny red tots just at the edge of the cover paper label and on the green cloth near the fore edge near the top, very little impact, a tiny bit of spine upper corner wear at each top corner, else some typical marginalia in neat pencil and a bit of red pencil line. . Copy 10 has a dust jacket, with typical & normal top and bottom edge wear, lacks a few chips, also corners worn, chipped, spine edge wear & a bit darkened, nevertheless a good example with Hearn's right profile illustration on the front cover, else clean example in Mylar protector, printed in green ink over gray paper, always RARE when present. . Copy 12 lacks the last fly leaf, top of spine piece chipped away, lower spine edge glue mended. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** BIBLIOGRAPHY: .
