The best book ever written on golf in America. Bert Wind (1916-2005) was the doyen of American golf writers and a close friend of his British counterpart, Bernard Darwin. He penned hundreds of articles for the New Yorker between 1947 and 1955, then again from 1962 to 1989. He was a writer for Sports Illustrated magazine. Although mostly associated with golf, Wind wrote on a wide range of sports including tennis, basketball, and football. In this book there are over thirty chapters which are basically short stories about interesting topics in golf. Especially good is his analysis of early American golf legends Francis Ouimet and Walter Travis as well as the legendary Bobby Jones. Later editions were published in 1956 and 1975. First Edition.
