Inhaltsangabe: The years 1946-1966 brought tremendous change to community life, especially in the inner ring of St. Louis suburbs originally created by the streetcar. This unusual collection of more than 300 photographs documents those changes as it records the line-by-line, suburb-by-suburb disappearance of the streetcar from St. Louis. Almost all the photographs are the work of St. Louisan Ray Gehl and most have never been published before. They are a unique record of a time well within living memory, yet utterly different from the way most folk live now.

Über den Autor: Andrew D. Young is an archivist, urban historian and writer, specializing in public and private transportation. He has written more than a dozen books and scores of articles since 1970. A nationally-recognized expert on trolley museums, tourists and vintage trolleys, Andrew Young's 1983 book "Trolley to the Past" (long out of print) was the first account of the burgeoning trolley preservation movement ever published. Still available from Archway Publishing is his current work on this topic "Veteran and Vintage Transit: a guide to North America's Mass Transit Museums, Tourist Trolley operators and private Mass Transit collections." He is featured in the KETC TV-St. Louis 1993 show "Ride of a Lifetime," part of their documentary series "St. Louis Chronicles."
