Near fine in original wraps. Really interesting and extremely rare, no other copy known that we can verify. This is a self-published early hippie screed, produced by an associate of Tuli Kupferberg. Judith Wehlau co-authored The Book of the Body w/ Tuli. Tuli of the Fugs, and much early crazy queer edge pushing counterculture action including numerous influential books, always w/ a rich overtone of hilarity. Now this is a weird, each page an illustration in itself, art and hand-lettered, better mimeographing on colored paper, remarkably bright and well-kept. But the fascination here is the strange mind-set of the author, vis-a-vis urban blacks w/ whom these early leftie, civil rights supporting, often Jewish denizens of New York's less than affluent neighborhoods. The book tells its own story, but in brief, was inspired by some guys getting ripped off in a dope deal by blacks, and going to the police; as she says, for sympathy. So, says she, she was inspired to do something funny too. Each page is a hortatory advisory on what not to do, or to do, like if you go into the ghetto in black face don't forget your ears and neck. Like, did this actually come up at some point. Most curiously, there is embedded early and unconscious racism, triply ironic in view of the Jewish identity of the author, quote: Essential ingredient of Ghettoes: too many children. 18p., wood-cut style art in mimeo, and Feiffer-esque cartoons, each illustrating another precept of ghetto entry, for example: Lethal weapons or not recommended, instead use protective disguises.
