Large black & white lithograph approx. 19½" x 26" overall (image size approx. 13¾" x 21") showing the harbor of Charlotte Amalie; tear in right margin coming up to but not entering image, with neat repair; one or two other short tears in the margins, and the margins lightly soiled; all else very good. The artist is Fr. G. Melby. I. W. Tegner & Kittendorff's Lithographic Institute was established in Copenhagen, Denmark, 1850 by Isaac Wilhelm Tegner (1815-1893) and Johan Adolph Kittendorff (1820-1902). The business ceased in 1893 with Tegner's death. The firm is primarily known for its portraits. This image was one of the firm's earliest, at a time when St. Thomas was still a Danish possession.
