Beschreibung
In Latin. Three books in one volume. Religious text, whose title roughly translates to About the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, Three Books. This work was originally published in separate volumes, starting in 1603, subsequently republished in many formats. The first complete edition, encompassing all three volumes, was published in 1605, and the last was published in 1754. This version published in 1690. Thomas Sanchez was a Jesuit who entered the order in 1567. He was much abused for his works. According to one critic the author's mode of expression shows a not always pleasing verbosity. As the work deals with every possible point in the subject of matrimony, it has often-and quite unjustifiably-drawn upon Sanchez the charge of immorality. To complicate the matter, he was a casuist and so sometimes appeared morally ambiguous, providing his critics more fuel. In actuality he was a very pious man who according to his spiritual director carried his baptismal innocence to the grave.
