Small Octavo. 258 pages. The author also wrote: The Converted Gambler. Here he is appealing to those fascinated with girls who ended up in prostitution. While brothels existed in every town and city of any size, it was assumed that most were tricked into the activity by conniving men. The fear of "White slavery" existed well into the early part of the 20th Century. The stories told here are obviously melodramatic with the one girl who fell deeply but crawled home to die in her mother's arms (and who was forgiven). It closes with the interesting observation that often these women entered into the life to support relatives or perhaps their own children. Near the end of the volume, there is an account of how such a woman was converted by the ministry of D.L. Moody (p. 246ff) and was accepted into the church and became a stalward member.
