Whether we like it or not, tough conversations are a part of life – you know, those interactions that require us to unveil our true hearts and minds and risk offending another person. Conversations like revealing your hurt to your mother about her comments, asking your neighbors to pick up their dog’s piles in your yard, or requesting that a coworker respect your privacy. Today, even more risky is dialogue on hot-button topics like politics, race, gender, and sexuality. With deep-seated division threatening to tear apart our families and communities, the need to learn to discuss difficult topics in life-giving ways has become dramatically apparent. In this 8-session study for individuals or small groups, communication trainer Dr. Heidi Petak will guide you through a two-part communication style assessment to create a comprehensive picture of how you communicate across your relationships. Then, she'll teach you how to turn from the fear that motivates your Turtle, Fox, and Bulldog tendencies and find the faith to Speak Eagle. Grounded in the Word of God and spiced with three years of narrative accounts from interviews with countless clients, students, and friends, this transformational study will give you the wings you need to SOAR through your toughest conversations with wisdom and faith.

Dr. Heidi Petak is a writer, speaker, communication trainer, voiceover artist, and college prof, passionate about helping people learn to communicate in life-giving ways. Heidi has worked with clients including HCA, Tractor Supply, MARS, Asurion, and the State of TN to help them improve in the area of organizational communication. She has also served as a private communication coach for CEOs and high-level managers in the fields of finance, healthcare, real estate, counseling, and ministry. She has taught or lectured at 5 universities and spoken across the U.S. and in Peru, Puerto Rico, South Sudan, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Japan. She currently teaches for Colorado Christian University and Denver Seminary where her students call her "Dr. P." As a voiceover artist, Heidi has voiced hundreds of commercial projects for clients around the world, including The United Way, Lifeway, Nissan, Tri-Star Health Systems, Holiday Inn and World Vision. In ministry, she served as the Creative Director for Fellowship Bible Church in Northwest Arkansas and currently serves as the Director of Women's Ministries at The Ascent Church. In her work as a writer, Heidi has published 15 musical drama scripts, two of which have been nominated for Dove Awards, as well as multiple devotionals and two books. In 2016, Heidi co-founded the Heart Perception Project, an effort with a non-theist friend, to teach diverse people how to engage in civil discourse and experience connection despite political differences (HeartPerceptionProject.com). She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Regent University, an M.A. in Communication from the University of Arkansas, and a B.S. in Broadcasting from John Brown University.
