Unpaginated. 44 cm. 100 b&w plates. Half black leather with black cloth. Gold print on spine. Binding has worn corners and edges, chipped spine head, cracked hinges, tears in spine tail, discoloured cloth. Antiqu Shop label on front pastedown. Front free endpaper missing. Endpapers foxed and stained. Half title has large verticle crease. Hlf title and title have chipped bottom corners. Rear free endpaper creased and torn. Plates are clean and neat. A decent text block in need of rebinding. First published in Edinburgh in a limited edition of 250 copies, this second edition had 500 copies, of which this is number 134. Very nice images.Small practised as an architect and designer of furniture in Edinburgh and Stirling, and produced several books similar to this which showed off his outstanding skills as a draughtsman. But he appears to have suffered financial problems from the 1880s onwards and his career went into decline (Dictionary of Scottish Architects).[Heavy item, may require additional postage to some destinations].
