Beschreibung
Second edition, published in the same year as the first edition. NOT ex-library. Green cloth boards rebacked with later spine and endpapers (quite a basic rebacking). Corners worn and edges/faces scuffed. Three previous owners' details to half-title and reverse of frontispiece. Text with some foxing, general marking and finger marks. Tears to pp404-408, crudely repaired. Cross section and five maps to rear (as called for) with associated edge wear, creasing and tears. The odd pencil note within. This book has been well read by previous owners and this is reflected in its condition. Whilst a significant part of the book deals with Whymper's attempts on the Matterhorn, the author writes about diverse subjects relating to the Alps, including the Fell Railway and tunnelling through the Alps; Glaciers; Mont Pelvoux; crossing various Passes; the Col Dolent; the Guides etc. The text includes numerous illustrations: 23 full page; 92 in text; 5 maps. Scrambles Amongst The Alps is one of the great mountaineering books. Further information available on request. (Uc5). Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 003600
