A New Edition, Ornamented with Engravings on Wood by Thomas Bewick, from Designs of Mr. Thurston. Includes the Life of James Thomson by Samuel Johnson, as referenced by COPAC. With Joseph Cook"s armorial bookplate on the front pastedown, and copperplate ink signature to the title page. Reverend Joseph Cook of Newton-on-the-Moor, d.1844, was vicar of Chatton and Shilbottle, and held the estate at Newton Hall, Northumberland. He married Sarah Widdrington in 1786. With six engraved plates of the original nine. Bound in leather with gilt lettering and decoration. There is only very mild wear to the extremities, with just very mild rubbing. Internally the pages are generally clean and bright, with slight browning and the occasional spot, prominent to the first and last few pages. The binding is generally tight and firm.
