Collects the core work of American mathematician Auslander (1926-94), demonstrating his many contributions to modern algebra. His reliance on homological methods, including functor categories, is a prominent feature of his work. His early work is mostly concerned with commutative rings, and the later work mainly with artin algebra, for which he was always interested in finding common features and settings. The papers are presented in topical sections on the homological dimension and local rings, ramification theory, functors, almost-split sequences and artin algebras, representation theory, lattices over general orders, tilting theory and homologically finite subcategories, almost-split sequences and commutative rings, Grothendieck groups and Cohen-Macaulay approximations, and relative theory and syzygy modules.
