An interesting compilation of the dispatches of the Duke of Wellington during his impressive military career, compiled by John Gurwood. This work contains a selection of the letters, dispatches, instructions, and military orders that Wellington wrote during his military career. Recased, with the endpapers renewed, and the bookplate relaid. Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, was a military leader and a leading political figure who served twice as Prime Minister in nineteenth century England. He is best known for his famous defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Compiled by Colonel John Gurwood. Gurwood was a British Army officer, who is known for being wounded on several occasions at battles that left him with numerous physical scars. He became a writer and historian after the Battle of Waterloo. With a bookplate to the front pastedown, belonging to Frederick Charles Cass. Cass was the rector of the parish on Monken Hadley in London, and published numerous works on local history. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Some repairs to the spine. A little bumping to the extremities. Light discolouration and marks to the boards. The odd spot to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd scattered spot, mostly to the first and last few pages Very Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 641P19
