First trade edition. 7-3/4" x 10-1/4", 672pp incl. prelims. Printed on off white alkaline paper and bound in signatures in heavy brown cloth boards. Design with motto ("the sword also means clean-ness + death") stamped in gilt foil on front panel, and title block stamped in gilt on spine. Back cover was exposed to moisture at some point in the past, and is mottled / stained as a result. Cover is faded to light brown at spine and at the left and top edges of the front panel where it was exposed. Otherwise, minor shelf wear, edge wear to cover. Blue top edge tinting is noticeably faded; fore and bottom edges are untrimmed. Binding is square and tight. Previous owner's book plate on inside front cover, and written in ink with date (July 30-1935) on front free end paper. Otherwise pages are gently age toned but clean and unmarked.
