Interestingly, this detective story, one of a series produced, is based on true high profile cases solved by this actual Chicago-based Mooney & Boland Detective Agency, which was founded by James Mooney and John Boland in the 1860s. Written as fiction (e.g., with dialogue) but apparently based on true events. There is a fair amount of information online about this detective agency and its history -- it was apparently bigger than Pinkertons in its time. Fifteen illustrations including a frontispiece. Hardcover with elaborate black designs and titles on the front cover and spine titles in band on the spine. Decorative endpapers. 357 pages.
