The poem became very successful when it was published as it caught the tastes of the day. Shaw was an English poet and actor, who published his first poem, 'Liberty', in 1756. He also wrote 'The Four Farthing Candles', 'The Race', and 'An Elegy on the Death of Charles Yorke, the Lord Chancellor'. With an illustrated title page, one plate, and one engraved tailpiece. Disbound, missing the boards, with evidence of having been previously bound. Externally, a little marking to the front and rear wraps. Internally, firmly bound.
