The value of an argument in establishing Truth and Certainty depends entirely upon its force and the degree of evidence it exhibits, which may be either convincing in various degrees, or the reverse. From this point of view, 'all arguments fall into two great classes, viz. (1.) Certain or Demonstrative, in which the evidence is in itself convincing; and (2.) Probable or Doubtful, in which proofs are merely probabilities, and therefore are non-convincing.
