Watercolour painter and architectural draughtsman Frederick Mackenzie "drew very little except architecture, but he drew this beautifully" . "He was a very accurate delineator of gothic buildings at a time when clarity was all important. His drawings in grey washes are small and feathery and beautiful". First published in 13 parts, Mackenzie's documentation of Oxfordshire demonstrates his use of the brush "with singular accuracy and delicacy" . In addition to this work, he also made Oxford drawings for Ackermann's University of Oxford and Public Schools, for James Ingram's Memorials of Oxford (1837), and for the Oxford Almnanack (1821-1853). The engraver and publisher, Joseph Skelton was skilled in topographical and antiquarian subjects and produced several volumes on the antiquities of Oxfordshire, this being the most elaborate. Skelton later settled in France, where he engraved the plates for Gavard's Versailles (1836), Vatout's Le Château d'Eu (1844), and Girault's Les Beautés de la France (1850). A very heavy book therefore shipping will cost more than the ABE default setting. Buchnummer des Verkäufers 001554
