This Book is in Good Condition. Clean Copy With Light Amount of Wear. 100% Guaranteed. Summary: Slot Canyon Hikes & Adventures revised 3rd Edition, updated for 2014 has 13 new canyons to hike, with many more entry points or hiking loop combinations to keep even the most avid hiker out on the trail for months at a time. The book contains 48 featured canyons, organized for hikes in five regions: San Rafael Swell, Escalante River, Paria River and the Page Area with the Upper Lake Powell Slots being the latest added to this book edition. The Upper Lake Powell Slot Canyons region consists mostly of tributaries feeding into the upper part of Lake Powell and offers some of the best remote slot canyon hikes in North America despite many of the trailheads being easily reached by a paved state highway. Southern Utah with its myriads of sandstone canyons, ravines, gulches, draws and washes offers endless hiking opportunities. The terrain, rock texture and colors vary so much the hiker will want to keep his camera in hand all of the time. The numerous minor and major obstacles will keep the hiker busy so they will never get bored. The endless variety of terrains in these canyons includes hikes for all ability levels from beginner to avid hiker. Many of the hikes are accessible by paved roads while others are an adventure just getting to the trailhead via extremely rough backcountry roads. Some of these hikes are extremely popular while many others are so remote that you are not likely to see another hiker for days at a time. Detailed directions are provided for driving to the trailhead. An introduction on how to hike in high desert regions and recommended places to camp and lodge are also included. This book provides recommendations including what to wear and bring along with you on the trail. There is a tutorial for the use of a handheld GPS and a compass for navigation. The latter part of the book is packed with resources for planning your hiking trip. The author, a second career professional photographer takes you on a journey through the backcountry of Utah and Arizona for exploration of the greatest slot canyons in the world. Joe Berardi has spent the last decade hiking and photographing red rock country. He has recorded his adventures and created custom maps, trail descriptions, ratings and what to expect on your hike. Many of the hikes in this book have the author's significant GPS waypoints for the trailhead, trail, confluences or obstacles. The current slot canyon list now includes the following:San Rafael Swell RegionsBaptist DrawBell CanyonCistern CanyonCrack CanyonCrawford DrawDevils CanyonDang CanyonDing CanyonEardley CanyonFarnsworth CanyonForgotten CanyonLittle Wild Horse CanyonMuddy CreekMusic CanyonIron WashWild Horse Creek TrailEscalante RegionBig Horn CanyonBrimstone GulchDry Fork of Coyote GulchEgypt Canyons (5)Little Death HollowPeek-A-Boo GulchRed BreaksSpencer CanyonSpooky GulchThe GulchWolverine CanyonZebra CanyonParia RegionBuckskin GulchBull Valley GorgeCottonwood WashLich WashWillis CreekUpper Lake Powell RegionButler CanyonCheesebox CanyonDeath CanyonFortknocker CanyonFry CanyonGravel CanyonHog CanyonLong CanyonMaidenwater CanyonNorth Irish Canyons (4)Swett Creek CanyonTrachyte Creek CanyonPage Arizona Area RegionUpper Antelope CanyonLower Antelope Canyon. Über den Autor: Joe Berardi, Photographer and Adventurer Joe Berardi was exposed to photography at a very early age since he grew up in Rochester, NY, the home of Eastman Kodak. In the 1960s Kodak was flourishing and just about everyone living in Rochester had a family member or friend working at Kodak and using a Kodak camera. Joe started delivering newspapers at age 12 and soon purchased his first camera with his earnings. His first photographs were B&W and taken with the cheapest Kodak camera available. Soon it was replaced with a Polaroid so he and his friends could have instant gratification of photos showing them weight lifting, launching model rockets, riding mini-bikes, etc. During his freshman year in high school he learned the fundamentals of photography and how to develop B&W film and prints and shortly later purchased a used 35mm SLR camera that opened up a whole new world of photography to this young man. By his late teens he was photographing skiing, motorcycle camping, cars and other trips around the northeast. As a teenager he worked with his father at his TV Repair Shop learning the trade of repairing TVs and Radios. He followed his father into the electronic industry by going to a local junior college and getting an Electronic Technology Degree. In 1975 he decided to continue his education at Arizona State University and moved to the southwest. The move to the Sonoran desert was an eye opener and he organized several backpacking trips into the Superstition Mountain Wilderness including Spring Break 1976 and 1977. After graduating he worked 24 years in EE industry in Arizona and in Colorado for 15 years. By 2003 he was anxious to return to his first love of photography as his first career wound down. He traveled all over the Southwestern states of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado building a portfolio in 2003. The thrill of photographing an elk rut at Rocky Mountain NP in 2003 and a slot canyon, Buckskin Gulch in 2006 not only had him hooked on outdoor photography but hiking to remote locations capturing the great outdoors. As part of photo trips he meticulously planned his shoot locations and took detailed notes of his photography hikes. After years of selling photography at Art Shows, people requested a book detailing his photography hikes. This was his inspiration for publishing books starting in 2012 about hiking and photographing the southwest. http://www.slotcanyonsutah.com http://joeberardiphotos.wordpress.com
