A very scarce copy of this charming children's tale with coloured pictures throughout. Very scarce. Dated from the inscription to the front pastedown. With six full-page colour illustrations. From the original German fairy tale, this story follows two young girls living with their mother, a poor widow, in the woods. One night, Rose-Red opens the door to a bear who asks if they would let him inside to warm up. In the original pictorial paper covered cloth. Externally, sound with rubbing and wear resulting in light fraying to the extremities. Light loss to the spine and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot or handling mark. Contemporary ink inscription to the front pastedown dated 1891. A light tide mark to the rear pastedown. Good.
