Beschreibung
A copy of Ellis' lesser-known poem, dating from the early Victorian period. Featuring numerous engraved vignettes. Sarah Stickney Ellis (1799 1872) was a Quaker turned Congregationalist, and author of numerous books on women's role in society. Particularly well-known are The Wives of England, The Women of England, The Mothers of England and The Daughters of England, as well as her more directly educational works such as Rawdon House and Education of the Heart: Women's Best Work. Ellis established Rawdon House in Hertfordshire, a school for young ladies intended to provide the moral training illustrated in her books. Other works include: The Women of England: Their Social Duties and Domestic Habits (1839) and The Sons of the Soil (1840). Rebound in a half morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally, a trifle rubbed. Wear to the top of the spine. Front hinge strained. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places, with pp1-3 working slightly loose. Occasional foxing prominent to the pages with the vignettes. It appears that the original first 16 pages are missing, although the book does start from page one. Good.
