Originally in French by Noel Antoine Pluche. Printed in English. Three volumes of original six with Volume I in two parts. Volumes have been collated and are complete. Illustrated throughout with 82 plates many of which are fold out. Noel Antoine Pluche was a French priest now best known for this remarkable work on natural history. The work was widely translated across Europe in its time and influence many naturalists though its scientific value has been questioned. In full calf bindings. Externally, sound with rubbing and bumping. Joints cracked to all volumes. Volumes I and III with reinforcement to hinges. Front hinge to volume I failed with board deatched bute present. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places, particularly to Volume I where pages 67-78 are detached but present. Pages generally bright with some spotting throughout. Fair.
