Beschreibung
A very scarce copy of the speech of Sir Francis Burdett, given after his release from the Tower of London. A very scarce work, disbound, with many pages uncut. 20 pages collated; this work is complete. This volume contains the speech gave by Sir Francis Burdett when dining with his constituents at the Crown and Anchor Tavern, 31st July 1810, after his release from the Tower of London. After questioning the House of Commons on their imprisonment of the radical John Gale Jones, Burdett was himself imprisoned in the Tower of London. He was released when parliament was in recess, and then brought legal actions against the speaker and the sergeant-at-arms, but the courts upheld the action of the House. This is a very scarce work, giving fascinating insights into radical political activism in early 19th century Britain. Disbound. Externally fairly smart, but with small losses to the rear and a small closed tear. This work is disbound meaning that it is no longer sewn together. However, the work is complete, and pages are bright, clean and intact, though many are uncut. Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 848M7
