Sporting Scenes and Country Characters by Martingale with Numerous Illustrations on Wood, Longman, Orme, Brown, Green & Longmans, London, 1840, 332 pp, full tree calf leather, 8.5 x 5.75 , 8vo. In good condition. Lovely tree calf binding, tastefully done. Light wear to extremities with moderate dryness to edges and corners. Joints lightly cracked with some chipping. Spine abraded with minor loss at head and tail. Inner dentelles bright and clean. Daniel Cooper bookplate with seal of a lion and collar on pastedown. Marbled end papers bright. Inner gutter previously repaired poorly. loss of marbled paper as a result. Gift inscription dated Christmas 1907 on second fly. All edges yellow. Interior lightly toned, heavier at times. Some light foxing. Free of known markings. Binding intact. Please see photos. A scarce sporting and hunting book with riveting scenes of grouse, hare, fox, cub, pheasant hunting.
