The Spur of the Moment

Well, where the fuck do I start? I wrote The Spur of the Moment back in 2016, and looking back now, bloody hell, a lot has changed! The book was originally my way of trying to make sense of my life. The good bits, the bad bits, the completely ridiculous bits, and some of the decisions that, quite frankly, still leave me scratching my head. Born In Haverfordwest in 1974 and blessed with two great parents and a stable upbringing, my mother and father are my greatest influences, we were raised in a safe environment. Acatholic education and strict discipline. I wore a camouflaged suit as a child and wouldn’t take it off and as expected when coming of age I joined the Royal Engineers at just 16 years old. From there, life took me in all sorts of directions. Engineering, telecommunications, running businesses, travelling around the world and experiencing things I could never have imagined as a youngster growing up in West Wales. But behind all that, things weren't always quite as rosy as they might have appeared.I've had my fair share of battles with addiction, depression, anxiety and trying to understand why my brain sometimes seems to operate on a completely different wavelength to everyone else's.And that's the interesting thing about life. We spend so much time trying to work out what's wrong with us, when perhaps we should be spending a little more time understanding what makes us who we are. When I wrote this book, I had some pretty strong opinions about certain things, particularly mental health, ADHD and medication. Some of those views have changed considerably over the years. Not because somebody told me I was wrong, but because I've taken the time to listen, learn, question things and, perhaps most importantly, look at life from a few different angles. And believe me, I've had plenty of opportunities to do that! In 2019 I kicked a 19 year cocaine habit, and got rid of people who were negative influences from my life.

14th February 2020 I registered as a practitioner with The Complementary Medical Association. Since then, I've spent years supporting people with everything from addiction and chronic pain to anxiety, neurodiversity and the everyday challenges that life has a habit of throwing at us. Along the way, I developed LiVEiT®, a system based around three fairly simple principles:
Acceptance, Angles and Perception. It's about learning to understand ourselves, looking at situations from different perspectives and recognising that sometimes the smallest changes in how we see things can make the biggest difference. These days, you'll find me doing everything from outdoor therapy and community projects to helping people with technology, advocating for medical cannabis patients and occasionally disappearing into the woods looking for mushrooms! Not exactly the career path I had planned when I was sixteen, but then again, when has life ever gone according to plan? I'm certainly not claiming to have all the answers. Far from it. I'm still learning, still making mistakes and still trying to understand this rather strange thing we call life. But one thing I have learned is that our past doesn't have to dictate our future. The person who wrote this book in 2016 isn't quite the same person writing this description today. And I think that's a good thing. So if you do read The Spur of the Moment, remember that you're reading a snapshot of my life at that particular time. Some of my thoughts and opinions have evolved, some have stayed exactly the same, and a few probably deserve a good laugh. It's my story, warts and all and if you don’t like it, i couldn’t give a flying fuck xx And as for what happens next?Well, I suppose we'll just have to see what happens on the spur of the moment!
